We all find sleep to be quite a struggle every once in a while. This is because of the changes in our body, environmental factors and stress. Still, these problems can reach a certain limit when we find that our work begins to suffer and we are becoming clumsier or losing our desire to do things at all. It may be that we are experiencing a prolonged period of sleep deprivation which is the result of an actual disorder. Diagnosing this disorder can be very hard without the help of a doctor to guide us in the correct question manner according to our symptoms.

So what exactly are the symptoms of a sleep disorder? Because sleep is an integral part of living, we absolutely must have it in order to survive. We cannot race to the finish in this journey we call life! A sleep disorder usually carries with it the symptoms of high anxiety and stress. Because the body doesn’t have the requisite energy, it quickly defaults into the lower emotional states of fear and grief. This negative emotional state is only one of the common symptoms of a sleep disorder.

Sleep makes a lot of things in our lives possible and we must therefore try to gauge the symptoms that we might perceive in ourselves when we aren’t functioning at optimum potential. Could these possibly be the symptoms of a sleep disorder? Since sleep is both our weapon to fight sicknesses and our source of productive energy, we may find a deficiency in both these areas if we have a disorder. When we lack sleep, we tend to get sick a lot easier. We tend to feel irritable and to frown a lot and we find that we can’t think or concentrate too well. Focusing on what are doing becomes too much pressure and we just want to lie around and do a lot of nothing. Sleeping disorders are often characterized by excessive daytime sleeping, slowness in finishing an activity, forgetfulness, anxiety, irritability and difficulty in learning or concentrating. These are all common to insomniac patients and others with sleep disorders.

In terms of the more specific disorders like narcolepsy or sleep apnea, there are an exclusive set of symptoms that are common to this type of disorder. Narcoleptic people experience a weakening of their bones which leads to sudden falls. They also have a strange rush of emotions in many instances such as sudden laughing or delirium. Others with sleep disorders such as sleep apnea may experience anxiety, midnight awakenings or having difficulty in their breathing. This may lead to a choking feeling during the night, night time sweating, morning headaches or loud snoring. There are also those who experience leg cramps or continuous, uncontrollable urges to move their legs. They may also experience high blood pressure, obesity and even impotence.

Patients experiencing such symptoms must be aware of preventive measures that they can take to prevent their problems from worsening. If they aren’t careful, these problems may lead to more complicated sleep related ailments. Once you actually experience these symptoms, it is important that you go to the doctor as soon as possible. You need to have a check up and see if you have any of the sleep disorders already mentioned. This way it is possible to avoid the worsening of such an ailment and the progression of the disorder may be prevented.

Because symptoms like these may not always be visible or noticeable, it may take extra vigilance to identify a sleep disorder. Doctors and former patients with sleep disorders recommend erring on the side of caution when it comes to a sleep disorder because the problem often sneaks up on people who never thought it could happen to them.

Sleep disorders are no laughing matter. They can result in very serious, long-term illness or fatal accidents if you aren’t careful. Making sure you are getting the required eight hours of sleep each night is very important. It is also best to stay on a regular schedule and maintain a balanced and healthy attitude each day. Life with enough sleep is a life full of ease! Make sure you get it because it is definitely something you deserve!

Sleep Disorder is disruptive for a person’s day-to-day life. Those who are deprived of sleep usually experience fatigue and drowsiness. They remain inactive throughout the day and they are just looked down on by other people.

Therefore, to check this malady of sleep disorder, you should focus on diet, nutrition, herbs and supplements along with exercises, and meditation. People also believe that relaxation and sensory techniques have a soothing effect on sleep. You may also opt for cognitive strategies which are beneficial and most often are used with the combination of behavioural or cognitive strategies as an alternative approach to overcome sleep disorders.

A healthy and nutritious diet is necessary for the sound sleep. Adding certain foods in your daily diet is as important as avoiding certain foods. Drinking plenty of water and having a variety of foods keep your body stabilised with a great level of energy.

Avoiding processed food, limiting the quantity of caffeine, and sugar helps improve your overall physical condition. There are numerous foods that stimulate a restful sleep and are of immensely important in relieving some of the sleeping disorder symptoms.

Before hitting the bed, having proper snack can increase the natural level of Serotonin. Serotonin is made from the amino acids tryptophan in the body. Foods that are enriched in tryptophan include avocados, cheese, fish, nuts, bananas, chicken, and milk.

As an alternative approach, most people use herbs and natural supplements to treat their sleep disorders. With the use of exercise and relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga and breathing exercise, you can reduce the mental tension and stress tremendously. People with the help of these techniques are able to overcome the sleeping disorders.

Visualisation and meditation are some of the alternatives to reduce the sleeping disorders. As such, there are two forms of meditation; breath and mantra meditation, which have a calming effect on the body.

Aromatherapy and Hydrotherapy are the two main techniques that lessen the symptoms of the sleeping disorders. In aromatherapy, essential massage oils, bath oils, room sprays are used whereas, in hydrotherapy there is the use of Epsom salt bath and a lymph footbath.
Behavioural and cognitive strategies are some other techniques which are used to deal with the sleep disorders; thus improving the overall performance of an individual.

Now, with focusing on the above mentioned sleeping disorders, you may experience substantial reduction in the sleeping disorders.

Sleep disorders are a highly common medical issue that affects millions of Americans each year. While some people suffer from mild sleeping problems, such as the occasional nightmare, others have extremely severe sleep disorders that can negatively affect their health if left untreated.

Getting a good night’s sleep is essential for feeling refreshed and alert during the day Did you know that the average adult needs eight hours of uninterrupted sleep every night in order to maintain optimal mental and physical health? Unfortunately, not everyone is able to get the restorative eight hours they need. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, over 40 million Americans a year will suffer from some sort or sleep disorder – many whom will go undiagnosed, or turn to over-the-counter sleep aids for relief. However, ignoring the underlying causes, or covering the symptoms with drugs usually makes the problem worse.

The disorder affects mostly people who are middle-aged or older and strikes once they settle down for the night, forcing them to get up and walk to relieve the discomfo9rt, sometimes for as long as two hours. In some people, the sensation moves from itching, burning and discomfort to outright pain.

Types of Sleep Disorders

Sleep Apnea: Sleep apnea is a sleeping disorder where the person will stop breathing, or the breathing becomes very shallow. This disorder can be life threatening. With sleep apnea, the pause in breathing can be anywhere from 10 – 20 seconds or longer and can occur anywhere from 20 – 30 times in an hour. There are actually three types of sleep apnea: obstructive, central & mixed.

Disturbed Sleep: Sleep apnea is interrupted breathing during sleep. It usually occurs because of a mechanical problem in the windpipe, but it also can indicate a neurological disorder involving nerve cells (neurons). As people age, muscle tone relaxes, which may cause the windpipe to collapse. This condition, called obstructive sleep apnea, results in loud snoring and blocked air flow through the windpipe that lasts from 10 to 60 seconds. It may appear that the person is gasping or snorting.

Narcolepsy: Narcolepsy is a sleeping disorder where a person will have trouble staying awake. When someone has narcolepsy, they will just suddenly fall asleep – in the middle of whatever they are doing. This is a very dangerous sleep disorder to have – for the person with the problem and for others around them. People with narcolepsy will have sleep attacks even after getting a full night’s sleep. They will fall asleep while driving, walking, cooking, etc.

Skipping meals during the day could cause insomnia. Researchers found that people who skip meals are more likely to have night eating syndrome.these people wake up in the middle of the night, without realizing it, and eat 25% or more of their calories. This is similar to sleepwalking, but with eating added in.

Pets and outdoor animals are the biggest offenders of causing a poor nights sleep. A dog that barks all night long can interrupt anyone’s sleep. For the person with a sleeping disorder it means remaining awake for the rest of the night. It is recommended that you keep all of your windows closed to ensure the best you get as much sleep as possible.

Hpynic jerks can also cause sleeplessness. Cramps or twitchy limbs can cause the sufferer to repeatedly awaken during the night. Hypnic jerks or restless legs syndrome (RLS) may ease when the sufferer is less tense, usually in the early hours.

In the United States as many as forty million people suffer from chronic long term sleep disorders while as many as twenty million have occasional sleep disorders. Good health requires sleep, even though this phenomenon is not completely understood by scientists and medical professionals yet. Sleeps disorders have three major types and one of them is insomnia sleep disorder.

Insomnia is a very common sleep problem that is experienced by millions on occasion and it means a person is not able to fall asleep. A person with insomnia will have a disruption of normal daily life and they will often feel tired most of the time and end up worrying about their lack of sleep. Insomnia sleep disorder can be caused by a number of factors including excessive intake of caffeine or alcohol, emotional difficulties, stress and other underlying diseases. Lack of sleep isn’t a disorder in itself, but it is an indication of inadequate sleep and can harm the immune system.

There are three categories of insomnia including predisposition, precipitation and perpetual.Recognizing Sleep Disorders in Children A person’s built-in traits are predisposing factors that make them vulnerable to insomnia sleep disorder. Certain events that occur during a person’s life cause precipitation factors which trigger a period of disturbed sleep. For example a person may have a sudden change in schedule which provokes insomnia, such as jet lag or a change in shift work.

Behavioral patterns that keep the insomnia at certain levels as those evidenced in irregular sleep habits or intake of drugs are perpetual factors. These factors may include alcohol abuse, heavy smoking and such extreme actions that can perpetuate insomnia. The malady may be temporarily alleviated by sleeping pills, but they are only a short term solution and are not effective for chronic insomnia cases.

Treatment is varied for insomnia sleep disorders and may include psychological strategies in addition to medications. Some of the recommended steps to take that should be followed to alleviate insomnia sleep disorders including good sleeping habits, sleeping when feeling tired and sleeping only in the bedroom. In addition, other recommended measures for curing insomnia sleep disorders including getting up at the same time each morning, abstaining caffeine and nicotine, establishing a daily exercise routine, avoiding alcohol and learning and practicing relaxation techniques Soundsleeping Disorder.

The most common type of the sleep disorder is called as the Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome. The Sleep disorder means termination of the breath. It is characterized through repetitive episodes of higher airway barrier that take place during the sleep, usually related with the reduction in the blood oxygen saturation. Within the other expressions, the airways become obstructed on several probable sites. The higher airway could be obstructed by the excess tissue inside the airway, bulky tonsils, and a large tongue and typically include the airway muscles comforting as well as collapsing when asleep. An additional site of impediment may be the nasal passageway. Occasionally the configuration of the jaw and the airway could be an aspect in the sleep disorder. The common symptoms of sleep disorder are excessive daytime sleepiness. Sometimes the patient might be ignorant of this symptom—generally the bed associate is particularly aware of this. The sleep disorder also causes trouble in proper breathing while sleeping. There are much of the associated features that may include: morning headaches, loud snoring, a dry mouth upon awakening, unreflecting sleep, high blood pressure, chest retraction throughout sleep in little children, overweight, depression, irritability, difficulty concentrating, change in personality, excessive perspiring during sleep, reduced libido, heartburn, frequent nocturnal urination, insomnia, nocturnal snorting, gasping, choking, restless sleep, confusion upon awakening, and rapid weight gain. Well one should also know how serious the sleep disorder is in humans. It is a potentially critical condition that requires instant checkup attention. The risk of undiagnosed disruptive sleep disorder includes strokes, heart attacks, impotence, high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat and heart disease. In calculation, the obstructive sleep disorder causes daytime sleepiness that may result in lost productivity, accidents and interpersonal association problems. The harshness of the symptom might be moderate, mild or severe.
The sleep test, known as polysomnography is frequently done to diagnose the sleep disorder. There are two kinds of polysomnograms. The overnight polysomnography test involves the monitoring of the brain waves, eye movement, muscle tension, respiration, oxygen stage in the blood plus audio monitoring. The second type of polysomnography check is the home monitoring test. The Sleep Technologist keeps one up to every electrode as well as instructs one on how to proof ones sleep with the computerized polysomnograph which one takes home plus returns up in the morning. These were painless tests which are generally covered by the insurance. A number of people contain facial deformities which may cause the sleep disorder. It simply might be that their jawbone is minor than it should be otherwise they might have a smaller aperture at the reverse of the throat. Fixing a deviate septum might help to open up the nasal passages. Remove of the tonsils and polyps or adenoids might help also. The Children are more likely to contain their adenoids and tonsils removed.

Sleep deprivation in America has become a bigger problem than most will admit. It is estimated that between fifty and eighty million people are suffering from sleep deprivation at this moment and that
most people will experience sleep deprivation sometime in their lives. Of course there are many reasons and at varying levels that people will be affected. but do you know the difference between sleep deprivation and a sleep disorder? One is a result of and the other is the reason for.

In other words you could have insomnia, which is a sleep disorder, and suffer sleep deprivation, which is the result. The reason I make this distinction is because too many people believe that they are suffering from a sleep disorder when they start missing sleep but when you carefully diagnose the problem, it might not be a disorder.

A simple example is: a dog is barking outside your window at night keeping you awake. After a few nights of this, you are experiencing sleep deprivation. Stop the dog from barking and you solve your problem. Unlike a sleep disorder, which could result from a psychological or physical issue in your life, sleep deprivation is the result.

Unfortunately a major problem today is too many people go undiagnosed and will not get the necessary treatment for their problem. So it is important to recognize what is causing you to have sleep deprivation in order to seek the correct treatment. Sleep deprivation can turn into a disorder, like insomnia, if you don’t get help. It can start as a mild case where you lose sleep for a few nights to a severe case where you are losing sleep for weeks or even months. So it is imperative that you examine what’s going on in your life to seek the cause.

Are you going through a stressful time and are doing a lot of worrying? Most people who are experiencing a stressful time in their life lose sleep because they lie awake all night thinking of their problems and their minds become their worst enemy.

Could it be something deeper that you can’t easily recognize? You should always seek a doctor’s help for both identifying your issue and remedies to take care of it. Sometimes it’s as easy as taking some sleep medication for a short period of time to get you back into a natural sleep cycle. The main point is to identify the underlying cause and then seek alternatives that can help.

Remember there are dozens of sleep disorders out there such as insomnia, apnea, night sweats, and so much more. The key is to identify the underlying cause and recognize that if you are loosing sleep over an extended period of time, you are suffering from more than just sleep deprivation, you are suffering from a sleep disorder. Seek medical help in determining just what it is and you can acquire the proper treatment.
