During normal breathing, air passes through the throat on its way to the lungs. The air travels past the soft palate, uvula, tonsils, and tongue. When a person is awake, the muscles in the back of the throat tighten to hold these structures in place preventing them from collapsing and/or vibrating in the airway. During sleep, the uvula and soft palate frequently vibrate causing the distinctive sounds of snoring.

The LAUP procedure is a laser surgical procedure designed to sequentially trim and shorten these structures, thus preventing or reducing snoring.

Risks and ComplicationsYou have the right to be informed that the surgery may involve risks of unsuccessful results, complications, or injury from both known and unforeseen causes. Because individuals vary in their tissue circulation and healing processes, as well as anesthetic reactions, ultimately there can be no guarantee made as to the results or potential complications. The following complications have been reported in the medical literature. This list is not meant to be inclusive of every possible complication. They are listed here for your information only, not to frighten you, but to make you aware and more knowledgeable concerning this surgical procedure.

1. Failure to resolve the snoring. Most surgeons feel that about 85% of patients who undergo a LAUP will have a significant or complete resolution in their snoring; and an additional percentage of patients will notice reduced levels of snoring such that their sleep partners will report that it’s level is no longer offensive.

2. Failure to cure sleep apnea or other pathological sleep disorders. Pathological sleep disorders, like sleep apnea, are medical problems which may have associated serious complications. At this time, the LAUP procedure has not been proven to cure these disorders.

3. Bleeding. In very rare situations, a need for blood products or a blood transfusion. You have the right, should you choose, to have autologous or designated donor directed blood pre-arranged. You are encouraged to consult with your doctor if you are interested.

4. Nasal regurgitation, a change in voice, or velopharyngeal insufficiency when liquids may flow into the nasal cavity during swallowing (rare).

5. Failure to resolve coexisting sinus, tonsil, or nasal problems.

6. Need for revision, or further and more aggressive surgery.

7. Prolonged pain, impaired healing, and the need for hospitalization

Of course, most of our sleep related problems occur at night. During the nighttime many diseases strike rather than the daytime, including a stroke, heart attack and asthma just to name a few. Some form of sleep disorder affects millions of people and the most common sleep disorder among individuals is insomnia.

Information on Sleep Disorders – Look Up Insomnia

Doctors only diagnose about eight percent of those with insomnia, despite the fact that more than twenty-five percent of people in the world suffer from it. Why is this? Because there is a lack of adequate information on the various sleep disorders. Insomnia is not yet fully understood by either the general public or scientists despite the fact that it is a common sleep disorder. More than eighty percent of the world’s population is affected by some sleep problem, but only ten to fifteen percent go to the medical practitioner to ask for help.

For those who want to do their own research there is a lot of information on sleep disorders. A good place to start is the internet. Your family practitioner if you have one is another good source for adequate information on sleep disorders. Otherwise it might be a good idea to go to a sleep disorder center in your vicinity. You can help protect yourself against the problems of untreated sleep disorders if you are well informed.

Symptoms of Insomnia

The victim will likely be totally cured once the irritant is removed Hypersomnia.

Causes of Insomnia

Symptoms such as irritability, inability to concentrate, forgetfulness, lack of behavioral integrity, impaired immune systems and depression, which is one of the leading causes of insomnia, are some of the things people will experience if they suffer from insomnia. People are actually suffering from acute depression and on the very of becoming suicidal in thirty-five percent of the cases of insomnia.

It is not uncommon to suffer from a sleep disorder, however, many people who suffer from sleep disorders do little about it because they don’t think it is a big deal. But consistent lack of sleep can cause anxiety and depression. That is why it is important to consider trying various treatments for these conditions.

In order to find effective sleep disorder treatments there must a diagnosis of the type of disorder being presented by the patient. Some of the symptoms include feeling sleepy, irritable, or tense throughout the day, difficulty staying awake while watching television or reading, and red eyes as well as red half circles under your eyes.

Some of the symptoms of a consistent lack of sleep can be cause for concern such as falling asleep while driving and having slow reactions along with emotional outbursts. Requiring caffeine throughout the day to stay alert can also be a hint that a sleep disorder could be present and treatments should be investigated.

The person suffering from a sleep disorder may have difficulty getting to sleep or staying asleep, as well as, have difficulty staying awake through the day. Some of the most common treatments are aimed at curing insomnia, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome and narcolepsy.

Insomnia is typically a short-term sleep disorder that prevents adequate rest and is usually caused by stress, a poor sleep schedule or irregular bedtime, as well as a physical or emotional problem. There are natural treatments for insomnia like:
* Learning breathing and relaxation exercises
* Doing Yoga
* Exercising more throughout the day.

Your diet can also play a role in treating your sleep disorder. Try to avoid:
* caffeine
* alcohol
* sugar

Medical Intervention May Be Needed As Treatment For Some Sleep Disorders

Some sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea, may require medical treatment. Sleep apnea is usually accompanied by heavy and loud snoring and causes the person to wake up possibly hundreds of times during the night without remembering being awake. A partially blocked airway is causing the sleep loss and these sleep disorder treatments include the use of devices to help force air into the mouth while sleeping or a mechanical dental device to help keep the mouth in the right position to breath throughout the night.

Restless Leg Syndrome is a relatively newly accepted problem, accompanied by symptoms of involuntary leg and feet moving while relaxing and trying to sleep. A similar sleep disorder, periodic limb movement disorder may involve different body limbs during sleep, causing interrupted rest. Treatments for these sleep disorders may include medication, lifestyle changes and alternative remedies listed above.

Narcolepsy is indicated by uncontrolled sleep periods during the day as well as short-term loss of muscle control during emotional times. Some of the sleep disorder treatments for narcolepsy include counseling, medication and behavioral treatments. For any disorder with long-term potential health effects, medical advice should be sought.

If you suffer from a sleep disorder, rest assured because there are treatments available that can help you get the sleep you need. Please don’t wait to help yourself. Getting the proper amount of sleep is vital to your health and well-being.

Insomnia or lack of sleep may have a big effect on judgment, memory, hand to eye coordination, well-being, and reaction-time. Many people who get only four hours of sleep at night take naps during the day. If you’re sleep deprived you can easily be more irritable and anger easily whereas if you’re not sleep deprived you might feel more relaxed and happy as you went about the day.

Sleep deprivation can suppress or damage the immune system and people whose immune systems are already compromised with various ailments and illnesses will suffer even more. It’s reported that the average adult needs about nine hours of sleep, but many studies and people dispute this; report range from four hours to ten hours a night. Some of the most common sleep disorder treatments are directed at insomnia, which in and by itself is a symptom of other disorders, such as, sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy.

Make sure to see your sleep specialist as soon as possible if you think you may have sleep apnea or if your spouse or partner says that he or she hear you stop breathing during sleep; take them seriously and get check out by your doctor right away. If not treated, eventually, this sleep disorder – sleep apnea, can sometimes cause a stroke; sleep apnea can cause death if not treated. The disturbed sleep disorder, obstructive sleep apnea, is caused by a problem with the windpipe, a neurological disorder, or sometimes an unknown factor; it causes loud snoring and blocked airways.

The person suffering from a sleep disorder may have difficulty getting to sleep at night or staying asleep as well as having difficulty staying awake throughout the day; they may also experience completely different types of behaviors that prevent them from staying asleep during their normal sleeping hours. Many people who suffer from chronic insomnia worry during the day about not being able to fall asleep and this just contributes to the problem. There are a number of sleep disorders that can appear in different people and even those with similar sleep disorders often display very different symptoms.

The sleep disorder Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) is an irresistible urge to move legs while sleeping and often accompanies Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (PLMD.) Hypopnea Syndrome is an abnormally shallow breathing or slow respiratory rate while sleeping. Narcolepsy is the sleep disorder of falling asleep spontaneously and unwillingly.

When you’re trying to fall asleep in bed do try to focus on anything pleasant, long enough to distract you from any worries that are keeping you awake. Many doctors are very reluctant to prescribe sleep medication unless it becomes absolutely necessary, which may be the case for you or anyone who is suffering from an injury that is accompanied by severe pain. Your pillows may make you feel as though you’re lying uphill or downhill and if they are too hard may press into your head uncomfortably, which will reduce the chance of your falling asleep.

Many contend they have trouble getting to sleep if they go to bed hungry, but research indicates that large meals before going to bed can cause indigestion and even additional sleeping problems; it takes the body a minimum of 2 1/2 hours to go through most of the digestive process and to be fully digested it takes about four or five hours or more but taking enzymes with your meals can speed up the digestive process. Some tips for getting to sleep include taking a warm bath, drinking warm beverages like a warm herb tea for example – but no caffeine, getting a gentle massage, listening to soothing music, repeating positive affirmations or other natural remedies. Some people say that sleeping with your head facing the north helps you fall asleep because your body is better aligned with the earth.

Check out your mattress to see if it’s too firm, too soft, or too lumpy etc. By going to bed at the same time each night, your body develops a natural rhythm as it begins to realize it’s bedtime. You might be allergic to something in your pillow – dust mites, the materials used, or the detergent or fabric softener used when it’s washed.

Concentrating on a few of the insomnia tips you’ve heard in the past may put your mind at ease long enough to allow you to get a good night’s sleep. Some doctors may offer sleeping drugs or medications as a short-term solution along with some insomnia tips, but hopefully will seek to find the underlying cause of the sleeplessness and treat the cause instead of the symptom. Some health experts suggest that contracting the muscles then relaxing the muscles starting with your toes and proceeding upwards as you lie in bed can help you relax.

Finding the best solutions to your sleeping problems or sleep disorder will be worth the investment in time. The choice of a specific treatment depends on your diagnosis, medical and psychiatric history, and personal preferences, as well as the expertise of the sleep specialist or sleep doctor. The doctors and other sleep specialists will have many treatment plans or remedies to offer once you’re diagnosed, if you go to a sleep disorder center.

At one time or another everyone has suffered from a poor night’s sleep. If your lack of sleep continues for more than a few nights you could have a sleep disorder, which have been known to cause depression and anxiety in some people if they do nothing about it. Sleep disorders, along with the depression and anxiety that they can trigger, can be corrected by learning to about the causes of sleep depravation and how to avoid them.

There are a number of factors that can contribute to having a restless night’s sleep. Sometimes a mild environmental factor, such as an overly warm temperature can contribute to having difficulty falling asleep. Of course, there can also be a number of serious factors that can contribute to sleep disorders.

The sleep disorders depression anxiety connection is not one to be taken lightly as the inability to sleep or maintain solid sleeping patterns is often connected with serious underlying psychological and psychiatric problems. Many people can suffer from the affects of disorders for years because of their refusal to deal with certain mental problems.

There is an unfortunate stigmatism associated with mental disorders in that people will think that others will think they are “crazy” if they find out they have a mental condition. The fact is that a lot of people suffer from mental problmes, and many that do live very normal day to day lives because they have educated themselves and learned to cope with their problem.

Understanding Sleep Disorders Depression Anxiety and Their Connection

There are a number of serious psychiatric conditions that can exist beneath the surface of sleeping disorders. Bipolar disorder, General Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Behavior, etc can all contribute to the myriad of sleep disorders. Also, it must be noted that sleep disorders do not always refer to the inability to fall asleep. Some sleeping disorders that cause anxiety and depression involve sleeping too much, or the inability to stay awake.

In some cases, the inability to stay awake can later be combined with the inability to fall asleep as well. This is common in bipolar sleep disorders depression, anxiety combinations. As such, proper treatment will be required in order to offset such problems.

Proper Treatment of Sleep Disorders Depression Anxiety

The best way to treat these conditions would be to try several natural sleep remedies such as exercising more throughout the day, watching your intake of alcohol, caffeine, and sugar, and getting yourself in a sleep routine of going to bed and waking up at the same time every night and morning. Try drinking night time formulated organic tea. You can find it at your local health food store.

You also should learn the deep breathing techniques of meditation. Yoga can be a great way to learn to relax and breath properly. These techniques are all helpful in combating depression and anxiety.

If natural remedies do not work, and you feel that lack of sleep is severely affecting your life, have a complete examination by a psychiatrist. If the psychiatrist notes that a serious sleep depression anxiety problem is present, then the psychiatrist will devise a solid out patient prescription care program that will alleviate the problems. Far too often, people will attempt to self-medicate with over the counter stimulants and/or sleeping aids.

Many over the counter sleep products lack therapeutic value and do not truly address the serious underlying condition of insomnia. As such, proper medical care is of the utmost importance. Of course, in order to do this the patient must himself realize that a serious problem may exist.

Sleep insomnia and its side effects such as depression and anxiety can be very debilitating to our lives. However, there are alternative ways to solve the problem once you educate yourself about yourself and your conditions.

Also, you need to believe that your lack of sleep is a temporary situation that you can fix. You won’t fix any problems unless mentally you believe that is can be done. Hopefully you can naturally get rid of your sleep disorders depression and anxiety. If your depression and anxiety become very serious, your sleep disorder may require medical attention and medication.

The term “sleeping disorders” is usually associated with sleepwalking and insomnia or inability to sleep. Sleeping disorders are common in today’s society. As per Wikipedia, there are around 14 varieties of sleeping disorders beginning with twitching in the eyes to restlessness in the legs.

Sleeping disorder is a feature of the modern times caused by stress, drug abuse, alcoholism, smoking, drastic changes in lifestyle, and poor eating habits, in addition to lack of proper physical activity. Normally, people sleep for around six to eight hours. The maximum number of hours a person sleeps is ten hours. If you do not get the required amount of sleep, your immune system will become weak, and this in turn can lead to all sorts of medical and health problems.

Most of these problems can be successfully treated. You can also prevent the occurrence of these problems if you take a few basic precautions. An undiagnosed or neglected sleeping disorder can create a lot of problems for you. Sleeping disorders can disrupt the harmony of your life. In extreme cases, it can also be life threatening.

If you spend your sleeping hours worrying about being unable to sleep rather than actually enjoying a good night’s rest, you could probably be suffering from a sleeping disorder. Those who have a sleeping disorder are, most of the time, not even aware that they are facing a sleeping disorder until the problem has seriously affected their life and career. People who suffer from sleeping disorders are usually depressed because their problem keeps them from living a normal, happy, and productive life.

A clinical test called Polysomnogram helps medical professionals to diagnose a case of sleeping disorder. A medical doctor has to make separate treatment plans for separate individuals because all individuals are not the same and don’t respond equally to a common treatment plan. As per Wikipedia, these methods are used for the treatment of sleeping disorders: taking prescription drugs such as Rozerem, Ambien CR, Ambien, Lunesta, and so on (these are sleeping tablets), psychotherapeutic/behavioral, and others.

People suffering from narcolepsy, a type of sleeping disorder, have to undergo a special type of test in which the activity of their brain is monitored to determine their peak sleeping points. Due to their problem, narcoleptics can’t work on machinery-related jobs that require a high degree of awareness and alertness.

Usually, people diagnosed with sleep disorders are given medication for a specific period of time. A sleep disorder makes the sufferers feel that they are not normal or that they are sick. On the contrary, a sleeping disorder is not really a sickness; with the proper treatment, you can easily treat it. Taking therapy will help you train your body to get the sleep that it requires.

Sleeping disorders have become quite common among people nowadays especially among the youngsters. It wouldn’t be wrong to call sleeping disorder a common problem of the youths. There are a lot of factors responsible for it such as late working hours, excessive intake of caffeine throughout the day, taking heavy meal just before going to bed, lack of physical activity, hectic work schedules, binging on unhealthy fast foods and increasing stress level.

In this article, we will give you a brief on the most common types of sleeping disorders. So read on…

There are basically three types of sleeping disorders; the most predominant being Dissomnia.

Dissomnia: Dissomnia is one of the most common types of sleeping disorders. It happens when there is a disruption in the body’s natural mechanism of resting. This usually happens when the atmosphere around you is not congenial for sleep. When there is too much of lighting or noise, it disturbs your sleep.

Parasomnia: Parasomnias are of different kinds with a different symptom in each form. One of the most common forms of parasomnia is confused arousal in which you wake up unconsciously and start walking. This problem in common term is known as sleep walking. Another common type of parasomina is sleep terror also known as night terror in which the person wakes up in a panic state. It is usually associated with a loud scream. There are many more types of parasomnias but these are the most common ones.

Proposed Disorders: these are the rest related sleeping disorders. When due to reasons like long hours of working or shift duties, a person is not able to get adequate sleep; it gives rise to a new type of sleeping disorder commonly called proposed disorder. In such cases, if the period of sleeping is unusual then it is considered to be a sleeping disorder. Proposed disorders are the common types of sleeping disorders.

Natural Cures for Sleeping Disorders

Natural cures are always better. Exercise regularly as it will help keep several diseases away. Eat nutritious food rather than hogging on fast foods and other junk foods. Take green tea as it is very relaxing and stress relieving. In addition to it, it is also a good idea to change your mattress and replace it with a memory foam mattress that provides cushioning effect and gives immense comfort to the body.

You can look for other natural means as well to treat your sleeping disorders.
