Ever wondered how much time the normal person sleeps in a day? How about in a month or even a year? Oftentimes we don’t record the number of hours we spend awake or asleep because we are simply too busy to think about it. All of us differ in the number of hours and the patterns of sleep that we have. Those that are able to sleep 8 hours a day, 7 days a week are truly blessed but what about the others who don’t sleep as well? They have to go through endless hassles of dozing off to sleep in the middle of the day or experiencing sleepless nights again and again. These unlucky people can actually develop sleep disorders that can really become a problem if they aren’t watched carefully.
There will be times that no matter how hard we push ourselves to sleep, it just isn’t just possible. If this is a problem that constantly bothers you and your sleep is more of a struggle than an ease, you may be contracting a sleep disorder. First the problem may be referred to as sleep deprivation and eventually is may be called a sleep disorder. The risks associated with this are very long and very serious.
Some of the risks involved in having a sleep disorder involve more frequent accidents such as automobile accidents and falling injuries. Frequently associated with sleepless nights is the difficulty in keeping a job which then results in financial problems and social problems as well. Actually , the list is endless and often goes unnoticed because the diagnosis of the problem is hard to determine.
Poor sleeping can be caused by many different factors. Age is one factor because, as we get older, our body clock changes. This causes an unstable state in our sleep patterns because we no longer need the same amount of sleep or may require it at a different time of day. Also, increased smoking or drinking of coffee may change our patters as well. Alcohol can also affect the quality of our sleep and should be avoided just before going to bed. A sudden change in the climate of your area may also bring about a total change in your sleep pattern. Medications, such as those which have been used in the past but are no longer used or those that are brand new, may bring about changes that must be taken into account.
As we get older, the risks that are associated with sleep disorders get even greater. Such risks go up in patients who suffer from cases of stroke and asthma. This is because they may often get attacks in the middle of the night which may disrupt their sleep. These are just a few of the risk factors leading to sleep disorders. Also, the risks are accompanied by dangers that we must be aware of as we get older. Less sleep might cause weight gain because loss in sleep lowers leptin levels which are known to increase hunger. Sudden mood swings also affect people who don’t get enough rest and this may tend to make them irritable. Stress and anxiety level may heighten which may then lead to an even greater loss of sleep. A person like this will have a hard time doing tasks because they simply lack the energy to do the things they need to do. Of course, more than anything else your brain will simply not function as effectively as it should. This will cause you to slow down in both learning and concentration.
Insufficient rest may lead to many unwanted accidents like car accidents and other obvious risk factors that all need to be considered if you want to stay healthy. Hyperthroidism, Acromegaly, Amyloidosis, Vocal cord paralysis, Morfan syndrome and Neuromuscular disorders are only a few of these very serious problems. The risks are more than enough to justify a preventive cure for these problems. By being totally aware of the consequences of the loss of sleep, we can surely avoid these problems in the future. As an old saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! Let’s not wait till the time that we have to resort to solutions we cannot afford. Let’s start by being informed of such disorders and what causes them. In the end, we won’t let these risks get in our way to achieving a healthier and more productive life.

It's not going to matter when you stop breathing! You should def wear your c-pap as much as possible….you got it from the doctor for a reason.
I think that this like many other things that have come and gone in the past years is unfortunatly not a cure. People are always claiming that a diet or something is going to cure autism. I work with children with autism and I've never heard about this working. I know 5 years ago when they thought vaccines may be causing autism it was all over the news. I think if it did it would be on the news and all over the place – because a cure for autism would be a big deal. This may be a good treatment for some children but I don't think cure is the right word. (This of course is just my personal opinion and it would never hurt to try a new treatment)
im pretty sure that this will earn at least a B…

I do agree with you…and people saying that we blame everything else are stupid!! It's only the facts!!
I was also diagnosted bipolar 2 with hypomania but the more I think of it, the more I realise doctors are in a hurry to label people and push pills!!! SO…..I decided to work on my self in the good way : I take vitamin D supplements(and that gives me more energy BIG TIME!!). I've also started taking Omega 3 and that to helps…a thousand times better than any pills doctors have given me!!
I have lost fate in doctors cause I feel that if they can't pin-point/ or understand what we are going through, they label us mentally unstable and push pills….pills that can CAUSE axiety, depression, even cancer!!! Doctors say we have to weight the good and bad sides…but they don't informe us of ALL the BAD side effects (cause only a small percentage of people have them…but damn, we might be those people…we have a right to know!!)!!!
IT'S NORMAL TO HAVE RUFF PATCHES IN LIFE!! Sometimes we lose hope and fall in desperation but, i find that positive visualisation and thinking is the key to get out of the blues. OK, some day are shitty and some people deal with stress in a more sensitive way but, the point is: I find we get LABELLED quickly and, trust doctors TO MUCH!!!
Get in touch with YOURSELF!!! If you want my advice, therapy is way more effective!!! It's hard work to go back in your memory and find out what caused you to be sensitive but it's a way of really dealing with the situation and not just MASKING the emotions with pills!!! Many things can ulter someones health: physicall and mental!! And, it may be something as stupid as malnutrition or lack of sleep (like you mentionned)
I'm a single mom and I have suffered from sleep deprivation and, God knows, I take care of my child so much, I tend to forget to take care of me!! (like eating well!!) Don't let doctors label you!!! If you feel misdiagnosted, get a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc advice!!! And with internet now these days, you can do all the research you need to help yourself!! Become your own "specialist"…after all, you know and have been living with yourself from day one!!!
And remember: DOCTORS AREN'T GODS!! THEY CAN BE WRONG!!!
Good Luck and I hope you will get smother roads ahead….
Best of wishes xoxox
You'll have to look to see what is more cost efficient. If you're making more money but then spending more in child care. Then it really doesn't make sense. I'd suggest finding a family member you can trust to watch the child in the morning then doing the day care after school. In the mean time I'd also be searching for a different job. Neither option sounds great.I'd also look into the labor law's about holiday pay.If you're a full time employee then I really don't think they can make you work on paid holidays .But as I said look into the labor laws in your state. I could be mistaken. You should also look into child care help from the state. If you met the financial requirements. You might be able to get some financial help in that area.

I suffer with terrible anxiety and it can come on for no reason at all! I feel breathless, i shake uncontrollably that people think i am shivering (i'm not), I feel sick, I feel faint sometimes, and my heart races.
Some tips I learnt during my inpatient stay at a private psychiatric hospital:
Drink ice cold water for a racing heart, it hits a nerve at the back of the throat and slows the heart down.Or suck an ice cube.
I take propranalol (on prescription) to ease the shaking and slow my heart down. Its a beta blocker.
Breathe in for 4 and out for 4, put your hand on your tummy and when you breathe in push the hand out. This is to make sure you are breathing deeply. Do this for a while until you feel calmer.
Focus on every little small minute detail around you. If you look at a chair, notice the bolts in it, the texture of the fabric, the smallest detail in the pattern etc.
Valarian root is a natural sedative used to treat anxiety and insomnia. You can buy it in health shops or online.
Also a treatment for anxiety that I was given that isnt addictive is Quetiapine. When i was in the private psychiatric hospital, I was give 50mg for my anxiety. In higher doses its an Anti Psychotic. It can actually be taken in doses as big as 600mg a day. It will make you feel quite sleepy at first though. You have to ask your doc for it as its prescription.
I hope this helps!! and get some counseling as the other techniques will only help short term, they wont stop you getting the anxiety attacks. CBT is good for anxiety.
