At some point in our life, we have all experienced the inability to sleep. Sleep deprivation can become more of an issue as we enter into the busy, stressful time of the year.
Sleep disorders manifest themselves in a number of ways. Our minds and thoughts can get out of control and keep us awake or there may be something going on with our internal system that needs medical attention. They can be a sporadic problem, recurring, or an all-too-familiar long lasting issue. Being unable to sleep can be a symptom of bigger problems. Sometimes we reach for prescription sleep aids too fast when the real issue can disappear by making lifestyle changes. This is why it’s very important to try to narrow down what is causing sleep problems, and to rule out any medical conditions such as sleep apnea, seeking medical treatment or prescription sleep aids if necessary.
In cases of mild or occasional sleep loss, relatively easy lifestyle changes can often be made. This is usually a case of trial and error. For instance, some people find music relaxing and sleep inducing—instrumental music or affirmation CD’s. But there are others who find any noise, let alone music, distracting and bothersome when trying to sleep. The same thing goes for light, TV, style of bed or bedding, and sleeping in a bed with someone else. We can observe what conditions are most conducive to our sleep, and try to emulate those as much as possible, especially when we are stressed out and may have trouble sleeping.
As someone who has struggled with insomnia for many years, I know how frustrating it can be to dread nighttime all day, wondering if you will be able to sleep that night, only to dread daytime during the night because you know you’ll be tired in the morning. It can throw your body completely off-kilter. Soaking music CD’s are very user friendly and have proven to put me out within minutes. Soaking Music allows my mind to calm down, which in turn helps me to focus on what’s really important and then I’m overwhelmed with peace that allows me to fall asleep. Other positive ways that have helped me on a daily basis is to eat healthy, exercise and not watch any TV programs before I go to bed.
It’s important for each person to find his or her ideal sleeping environment and/or bedtime ritual and try to stick with it, and this may take a lot of patience! But once we understand what makes us not sleep, it’s usually easier to avoid those things and start creating a better sleep environment so we can get those sought-after REM sleep hours to be more productive and happier throughout the day.

Help answer the question about rem sleep disorder
Anyone have a REM sleep disorder, or a form of narcolepsy? For over a year I've been tired every day, no matter how much sleep I get, no matter whether I exercise and eat healthy or not. I was on ritalin then adderall and they have hardly any affect on me. I also need a lot more caffeine than the average person to get any energy from it. Two years ago, I was so sensitive to even the smallest amounts of caffeine that it would cause a panic attack (which I don't get anymore). I have countless, extremely vivid dreams every time I fall asleep, even if I doze off for 5 minutes & someone wakes me up, I'll have already started dreaming. I know you aren't supposed to enter REM sleep until after about 90 minutes of non-REM sleep. I also sometimes have the 'paralyzed' feeling for a short time after waking, but I don't fall asleep in random places. Do you think there's a chance I have a sleep disorder? Is there any treatment available for something like this?

I went to standford's sleep clinic since it was supposed to be the best place in the world for it and I have "insomnia," and my parents were upset about it. It was a pretty bad experience, I discovered one of the glues they used was toxic, and I was kept awake all night by electodes on me generating a field, not being permitted to move at all, and people running down the halls screaming or something.
Afterwards I was diagnosed with sleep apnea since I was unable to sleep for long peroids, and reccomended some drugs.
I had been living with someone who had sleep apnea for about 2 weeks prior to this, and thus I knew what sleep apnea was. (When you lie down your windpipe collapses so you choke hence you can't sleep, and this guy was up almost all the time and really messed up by sleep deprivation).
Because of that it was pretty clear to me this diagnosis was false (and possibly a catch all to diagnose people that don't sleep after you pay for lots of expensive tests). Standford has one of the best sleep labs so I'd wager some of this is applicable to your story.
Sorry about the other question. I wanted to give it a serious answer, but with Qs like that, they tend to get mobbed with short 2 line answers, and by the time you get a real response done 8 are ahead of yours and no one ever reads it, so I basically cheated, put 1 line in, and then edited to say the full thing
It's done now.
I do not have the same problem, but you should ask your doctor if too much medication could be it.
I really liked your channel and this video. If you need any help getting this video exposed I use a site called tubeviews.(net) It has really helped like 20 of my main videos get to the top in position. Its nice.
thanks for sharing good stuff man
that’s sleep paralysis. Don’t worry, it doesn’t do any physical harm.
Best thing to prevent insomnia is exercise! Eat well, exercise and go to bed. I used to have problems sleeping, now I exercise every day before going to bed and I sleep like a little baby. Your body just shuts down after a good hard workout.
i have dreams where i end up falling down the stairs or something and i can feel myself falling and then i wake up
Oh i cant remember but i just watched it tonight. try looking it up on their website maybe.
Depression and insomnia are linked. I am sorry to hear about your situation and it seems you have a lot on your plate in the moment, stressful for many different reasons. I would suggest you see a counsellor.
i have used a natural substance called melatonin. it naturally occurs in the body to tell your brain that it is time to go to sleep. it is sold in health food stores, and probably in wal mart too. it is non-addictive and it actually works.
once upon a time when i was dozing off during a lecture, i shaked so abruptly that made all the class look at me… aah old times..
I did that too. I have apnea and actually stop breathing they gave me a machine (CPAP) to use with a face mask attached to it.
your last statement is your answer, there is no guarantee, this product is not better than the ones you are describing though. on the other hand, if you have gone through so much then it is worth a try, good luck
You are not stable your dose yet. Are they still increasing you say 5mg every other day? Once you reach your dose (everybody's varies) that is one way you know is because of your sleep. That is one question my clinic always asked me when started was "How is your sleep?" As long as it was meed up they increased my dose until I reached 80mg and I was stable for a few weeks then I started hang trouble with my stomach again and they increased me to 85mg. This was the magic number for me but for some is much higher. My clinic doesn't like to go much higher which goes against research but fortunately isn't too much of a problem for me. So, Yes, it will get better. The best part for me was not waking up in withdrawal. What a bless! Good Luck!
