Sleep Disorder – Taking Its Toll On Shift Workers

Sleep Disorder - Taking Its Toll On Shift Workers

This is considered as the most common form of sleeping disorder, and this is generally seen in firemen and police people, or generally in any person working shifts. This problem is mainly attributed to the change in the work hours, and working during the sleeping hours frequently. This is also a pattern of sleep that is seen in the students during their semester exams, as they stay up late in the night.

It works like this, if you generally wake up early in the morning, and because of your semesters, you are sleeping late in the night, this might actually disrupt your sleeping pattern, and this will render you confused and your ability to think gets reduced, and they tend to go to the class late, because they are not able to cope up with the new schedules.

This is exactly why the school, when it changes its timing gives enough time for everyone to get settled, so that you don’t get physically dislodged, so that you will be able to make it to school spot on time, and still have adequate sleep.

This is the main reason as to why one person should keep his schedule the same and not keep varying it constantly, and if you are going to mix up your schedule constantly, then you might confuse yourself. There are a few people who keep switching their job schedules so frequently that they will not be able to completely sync their timing with the other major priorities in life.

Running between more than one job is another reason for one’s sleep getting dislodged. If you are going to be attending college in the morning, and if you are going to work in the night, then, you might not find adequate time to sleep, and this will gradually decrease your stamina. People must schedule all their work in such a way that they get enough time to do all the work they want to. One must not feel stressed out with his schedule, because the stress will be a huge problem for anyone who is facing insomnia because of their working pattern. Drastic changes in lifestyle at frequent intervals will burn you out.

This is exactly why people go low and they start facing other physical problems like indigestion, and they will also feel like they are being forced to do things that they really don’t want to.

The college students who live a life like this tend to lose weight drastically, or they gain weight drastically, and they get burnt out pretty soon, and they really find it hard to adjust to their kind of lifestyle, and this change is too much for them to take. Even the nurses who work on night shifts will certainly be facing such problems. This is mainly because of the fact that they work during the time when they actually need to be giving rest to their body after a long day’s work. This kind of sleep disorder disrupts ones eating habits, and the concentration and the mental focus are also lost. This will make people’s life go haphazard.

It’s 4:30 am EST, and obviously I’m watching this because I can’t sleep. For people with insomnia, I have the cure. If you can, go run ten miles and I promise you that you’ll fall asleep. I can’t sleep because I’d stay up thinking about things all night.

Personally I think your question itself is a good question.
It's 2:49 am where I am and I'm wondering why I woke up at 1:00 am
and can't go back to sleep.
Mine might be stress related, although this has gone on for months.
I'm obsessive/ compulsive and take medication DO I need to increase the dosage?
My best 3 friends have died since 1993. Last one a week ago.
    Pooter, Sweetpea and LuLu.
My dad died a year ago, my uncle died yesterday.
It's making me crazy, I'm tired all the time I'm crabby , I'm 69 and wondering how long I have to go.
If you are able to get a question or a thought from my early morning ramblings from being so tired and unable to sleep then please do so.
I worry about the situation the world is in right now and how the heck people with children can afford to feed and clothe them with prices heading for the outer limits. How many people are out here worrying about world conditions and can't sleep because of it?

Avoid stimulants including cigarettes, caffeinated beverages and food such as chocolate in the late afternoon and evening.

Avoid alcohol in the evening. This can have a rebounding effect, causing a person to wake up a few hours into sleep and disturb sleep patterns.

Finish exercising at least two hours before going to sleep. Exercise increases body temperatures and has an arousing effect, making it more difficult to easily fall asleep.

Don't sleep in a warm environment. A drop in a person's body temperature is important at the onset of deep sleep. People who sleep in a well-heated room or use an electric blanket may not sleep as soundly.

Catch up on missed sleep when you have the opportunity. Busy work schedules or weekend activities often make it difficult to get as much sleep as we'd like each night. To reduce this sleep debt, try taking a 30-minute nap during the day before 4 p.m. or sleeping in on weekends when you have a chance.

Try & go to bed around the same time every night. If you try all these tips & you still wake up every 2 hours call the doctor & get an appointment. You can try prescription Ambien or just try taking Tylenol PM for sleep. If you like natural products, go to your local health food store & buy Melatonin. Take 2 about 1/2 before bedtime this should keep you sleeping soundly through the night. Good luck!

Smoke weed 2 hours before your expected bed time. Pill medications suck and have too many side effects.

Best thing to prevent insomnia is exercise! Eat well, exercise and go to bed. I used to have problems sleeping, now I exercise every day before going to bed and I sleep like a little baby. Your body just shuts down after a good hard workout.

  14. changwanglib says:

Agree, stress is number one cause, if you are one with life and stuff, you will sleep, if you are fucked up, ie diseases, loss of love one, depressed, jobs, happyness.
