Taking a Sleep Disorder Test: First Step to Better Sleep

Taking a Sleep Disorder Test: First Step to Better Sleep

Knowing whether you have a sleeping disorder is difficult to find out by yourself. However, it is important to find out if you are suffering from one in order to help yourself get better sleep and become more functional during the day. One sure way to find out is through a sleep disorder test.

Why You Need the Test

Most of us probably do not know what goes on even in our own bodies while we are asleep. A lot of people therefore may end up suffering from a sleep disorder simply because of a lack of awareness of the symptoms and the condition, hence a need for a good sleep disorder test.

There are several types of sleeping disorders but the most common ones are insomnia, narcolepsy and sleep apnea. All these sleeping disorder conditions can be fatal and it is believed that at least 1 out of 3 Americans suffer from a sleep disorder of some sort. At the least, undiagnosed sleep disorders could affect your quality of life, making you less able to interact productively with others and perform even simple tasks. The physical stress and drain of a sleep disorder could also be psychologically damaging, leading to feelings of intense frustration and helplessness. At the worst, a sleep disorder could either be a sign of an underlying medical condition or could lead to more serious medical conditions like stroke and heart ailments.

Taking a Self Test

Although you may not be aware of what goes on as you sleep, you can perform your own sleep disorder test. You simply have to look at your own symptoms as a basic sleep disorder test. You should be worried for example if you wake up and don’t feel refreshed, if you have trouble sleeping or if you wake up frequently at night or too early.

Observe changes in your own disposition and behavior during the day. A quick temper, irritability, lack of concentration are only some points to note in your own sleep disorder test. Take note too if you frequently meet accidents and if you feel sleepy during the day.

Products for Self-Testing

Insomnia can be tested with a sleep disorder test pack that can measure your hormone levels. If you are doing a saliva sleep disorder test, look for the hormone melatonin. Melatonin is a naturally occurring substance in the body that manages a person’s perception of night and day and the cycle of sleep and wakefulness. Some people with insomnia though may have lower levels of melatonin. A sleep disorder test that will check you melatonin levels will help you determine if you need to take added melatonin supplements that are available even without a prescription.

Professional Testing

If you are not sure about the signs and symptoms, a professional opinion may be necessary. There are many kinds of tests but the most common professional sleep disorder test involves a sleep study.

In a sleep disorder test done by a professional, you may be asked to stay in the sleep disorder clinic or hospital for several hours, depending on what sleeping patterns are being checked. The procedure entails wires to be attached to you in order to monitor your heart rate, brainwaves, and breathing. Qualified personnel will then score your results for your doctor to interpret. Your doctor will then provide you with the necessary treatment for your condition. A succeeding sleep test may be conducted to determine the effectiveness of the treatment.

It is very alarming that most Americans are experiencing problems on sleeping. I think they are not just the ones who are experiencing this, especially those busy people are

I wish you had posted this before your bad experiences with college. There are disability services offices at colleges that can help you when these things happen. If they know you have bipolar you could have made up those tests. You could have gotten extra support when things started to pile up.

    That is still possible.

Online schools are not the greatest yet. They are improving, but I don't think they make sense for a full degree.

Have you received any services from your state rehabilitation department? They migth be able to get you back into school with accommodations so you can be successful. But you are really going to have to work to convince them that you are worth the effort for another chance.

    Perform not preform.

The second essay is too detailed about the medical issues and comes off as whiny. The essay comes off as "you are all a bunch of idiots and I can do better." Everybody has had an experience that was less than pleasant in healthcare, focus more on what you learned from those experiences and not on the details of what happened. Like "during my preperation for surgery I realized what a difference skilled caregivers can make for a patient's comfort and healing. I want to be one of those skilled people…….yada yada"

    Hello,

Why no screening test? You can't self-diagnose. When it comes to mental health disorders, it is best to seek a professional to get a proper diagnosis. Most people here, me included, are not qualified to make that determination.

    Take care…

  7. nonon19451 says:

Mix very basic medical information and biased advertising and you get this.

A more intelligent way to handle any medical problem would be to consult a decent doctor/ psychiatrist and read as much independent scientific information on your problems as necessary too fully understand them.

As always, we advise you to consult your health care professional for any medical advice or diagnosis.

yeah it could me narcolepsy, excessive daytime sleepiness, or/ and hypersomnia..
but u should definitely check it out
if it cause u to have mood swings,
    lose motivations etc
    an overnight or more test
will be able to determine exactly what it is
since there are so many sleeping disorders
i believe about 100 or more..

haha probably the fear of sourness: Achluophobiaor the fear of knees: Genuphobia….i myself have a fear of geese (i forgot which one that is….) everyone says it's irrational but i find it perfectly understandable, haha.

  12. ANSWERER. says:

its not that you have too many, its that you took the time to put them in alphabetical order thats scary.

  13. LeNaye says:

I wouldn't go along with the DNA test until a lawyer gets him to sign a contract agreeing to your terms in child support and visitation time. I absolutely want this in court.

He has vanished on you, on his other wife, on his other kids.

I don't see that you or especially your son get anything out of his coming back into your lives – probably to disappear again. I think he has showed you his personality – he didn't "man up " before and he has given you NO evidence that he has changed.

  14. maovaj says:

yes u should definetely check it out
it could be just an irregular sleeping patterns
but if it goes over a week or a month
then check it at a doctor
or i advice looking it up online to checking out books..
    there should be more symptoms
sleeping disorders is one of the hardest thing
to identify so take it seriously

  15. Bee says:

Are you asking us to pick this apart and take out the important information for you?

Look if you are serious about acting then only you can do the work. Read through it yourself and highlight the parts that stand out. If you don't do the research and the work yourself it is pointless and that means you are lazy and directors don't like lazy actors.

I have what I like to call idiopostophobia. I'm afraid of idiots who post massively long and pointless questions on yahoo answers. Eek!
